Authentically You!
“Now Yahweh said to Abram, “Leave it all behind —your native land, your people, your father’s household, and go to the land that I will show you.” Genesis 12
Abram has not had any interaction with Yahweh before this moment. He had never worshipped in a temple, read scripture, there was no burning bush or pastor to encourage him. Suddenly without warning the voice of Yahweh speaks to Abram to leave it all behind. Everything he had ever known. The Hebrew play on the words “leave it all behind” is actually translated as “Go find yourself,” meaning this journey was about Abram finding his authentic self.
Many of us grew up becoming what others expected, choosing careers to fulfill our parents' dreams and shaped by our culture. To find our authentic self, we must let go of both our own and others' opinions. Leaving everything familiar took great faith and could only be done under the government of love.
“Follow me, and I will make you into a great nation. I will exceedingly bless and prosper you, and I will make you famous, so that you will be a tremendous source of blessing for others.”
Yahweh is very clear in His statement to Abram. Follow Me and I will make you into a great nation. As we follow Abba, our Father, He will make us into a great nation. He has already given each one of us everything we need on the inside to be who He designed. It’s just locked up until we truly surrender to His love and follow Him. In Matthew 5, Jesus tells you and me we are the light of the world. A city set on a hill that cannot be hidden. In each one of us there are cities being built. Statistics show that when ten generations come from one person they are then considered a city. Abba is always thinking generationally.
When He says I will make you famous He isn’t talking about social media famous. Other translations say, “make your name great.” Abba is saying your name will be remembered for eternity through making your generational legacy great. Truly following Abba under the government of love will cause your character to be highly esteemed among your children, grandchildren and so on but also among the community He has you planted in. Under the government of love everything points back to Jesus.
Why would He be so concerned with us finding our authentic self and our legacy? So we can be a tremendous source of blessing for others. When we choose to come out of the government of fear and live under His love our lives truly become a display of the authentic Jesus to those in our communities. We then have the opportunity to bless them tremendously.
Are you ready to go on a journey with Abba to find your authentic self? He’s ready to show you the way. It will require you to leave some things behind.
