The Removal of the Scales

“Jesus also quoted these proverbs: “What happens when a blind man pretends to guide another blind man? They both stumble into a ditch! And how could the apprentice know more than his master, for only after he is fully qualified will he be at that level.” Luke 6:39-40

Do you think the man being guided knew the other man was blind until they both fell into the ditch? Probably not, people blindly follow others all the time. You don’t know what you don’t know. This is why we must ask Jesus to open the eyes of our hearts so we can see Him.

In this parable Jesus says the blind man pretends to guide the other one. Most people pretend because they fear what others think. The fruit of social media is pretending but also the church as taught people to pretend. This goes back to the government of fear.

Jesus asks, “how could the apprentice know more than his master? He can’t. Only after you have spent time tethering yourself to Jesus can you fully know Him. This may be the hardest part of tethering ourselves to Jesus because there are some areas of blindness we must be willing to remove in order to follow Him. In our willingness to yield to Jesus, He sets us in family. If you want a good marriage- tether yourself to people who have good marriages. You want to improve in your finances- tether yourself to someone who is good at finances. You want to be healthy- tether yourself to someone who can walk your through good health choices.

“To the fatherless he is a father. To the widow he is a champion friend. The lonely he makes part of a family. The prisoners he leads into prosperity until they sing for joy. This is our Holy God in his Holy Place! But for the rebels there is heartache and despair.” Psalm 68

One thing most people do not like about government is the authority it carries. When we yield our lives to the authority of love under Jesus there is an aspect of discipline. If you are willing to yield your life to Him, you have to be ready for correction. Love corrects and disciplines. We’ve all had our fair share of heartache and despair. Let’s yield to His government of love and tether ourselves to Jesus. He will remove the scales from our eyes so we may see.
