The Father is Speaking
Are you following the real Jesus? A lot of people would read that question and think there’s only one Jesus. This is true except the one people have created to fit their lives. Let me explain.
In John 5:37-38, Jesus is talking to a group of people who’ve given their lives to the scriptures. They’ve memorized the first five books of the Torah. They spend hours in the temple praying and discussing the Torah. They pride themselves among others for knowing so much about Yahweh, yet when Jesus arrives on the scene they have no idea who He is. How do they not know?
“And My Father Himself, who gave Me this mission, has also testified that I Am His Son. But you have never heard His voice nor seen His form, nor does His Word truly live inside of you, for you refuse to believe in Me or to embrace Me as God’s messenger. “You are busy analyzing the Scriptures, poring over them hoping to gain eternal life. Everything you read points to Me, yet you still refuse to come to Me so I can give you the life you’re looking for—eternal life!”
Jesus makes a strong point here. We must prioritize hearing the voice of Abba and seeing His form in real time right now. Reading the scriptures is very important. It is something we should do every day but we must do it following Jesus. Talking to Him, listening to Him, watching Him. Having knowledge of something does not bring transformation to our lives or the lives of others. We must intimately know the One who brings eternal life. Believing that Jesus is the Word causes His word to truly live inside of us. The scriptures are a word of God but Jesus is the Word.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. John 1
There are people who believe the Father doesn’t speak and we only have the Bible to guide us. This is dangerous because searching the scriptures without the lens of Jesus will cause you to make the scriptures say what you want them to say. This is why we have so many different denominations.
As a follower, an apprentice of Jesus, you become so tethered to Him and your heart so connected to His the power of His resurrection begins to flow through your life. The last thing any of us want is to be delusional in our relationship with Jesus. The religious people (church people) didn’t recognize Jesus when He came on the scene. They had already decided how He would look so they left no room for Him when He came.
We will not be a people who have Jesus as an added blessing to the lives we want like a cherry on top. We are followers of Jesus. We will not stop tethering ourselves to Him, listening for His voice, watching His every move. We will see His resurrection power flow through our lives. We will see the real Jesus and live Him out for the world to see Him as He truly is.
