Does Jesus Know You?

How many decisions do you make daily? Statistics show that an average adult makes approximately 35,000 decisions per day. This includes conscious and subconscious choices from simple decisions like what to eat or wear to more complex decisions.

How many of those decisions are you asking Jesus what He wants for your life? We can’t say we have surrendered our lives to Jesus if He has no say in our day to day decisions. We are endeavoring to follow Jesus instead of Him following us. We want to be covered in His dust, not the other way around. Jesus gives us an example in scripture of a whole group of people who left Jesus in their dust because they made their own choices in life with His name on their T-shirts.

Matthew 7:21-23, “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’

This group of people were all about causes, gifts and action in the name of Jesus. They were faithful to church and reading their Bibles but they made all of these decisions based on their own desires. They wanted to be seen and heard. They wanted to make progress for their Kingdom. We can get so busy doing churchy things and never actually know Jesus. If we can be honest with ourselves, it’s really the American church today. People have become apprentices of American Christianity. Jesus tells us in this passage there will be people who stand before Him to declare all that they’ve done in His name, prophesy, cast out demons, miracles and yet they never knew Him.

When Jesus says, “I never knew you,” the word "knew" in Aramaic, Greek, and Hebrew conveys a deep, intimate understanding. The kind of intimacy Jesus is speaking about is the same profound knowing that brings forth life between a man and a woman. This connection goes far beyond surface-level acquaintance or mere association. We are called to choose intimacy with Jesus, not simply focusing on external causes, gifts, or actions. Building this relationship requires us to slow down and intentionally follow in His footsteps. It means walking closely with Him, working alongside Him, and attentively watching His every movement and word.

Are you ready to follow Jesus? He’s asking us to make our entire lives for Him, not just about Him. Will you let the voice of Jesus direct your every step?
